Transforming events through sustainability and legacy
Through strategic leadership, FIEXPO Exhibitions Group and our partners, we are working on the mission of accelerating a revolution in the way events are held through sustainability towards regeneration in Latin America.
To ensure that sustainability is a responsible way of meeting and doing business, FIEXPO is committed to implementing a sustainability and legacy strategy to engage stakeholders, the local community and the meetings industry with the aim of co-creating and developing a more responsible event, to enhance environmental, social and economic transformation.
FIEXPO catalyzes these positive impacts through strategy, responsibility, action, education and inclusion.

Our strategy
Through working together with international sustainability and legacy experts, the Global Destination Sustainability Movement (GDS-Movement) and #Meet4Impact, who guide our ongoing journey, helping us measure our impacts and beginning to create legacy for the destination and the meetings industry community.
We have formed a sustainability team made up of key members from FIEXPO, Panama, Costa Rica, Colombia and Uruguay, GDS-Movement, #Meet4Impact, our suppliers and strategic allies.
Key Objectives
Strategic alignment
- Develop strategy around sustainability and legacy.
- Select a work team.
- Engage key sponsors, suppliers and partners.
- Support the Grupo Centinela foundation, an organization that works on the education and inclusion of minorities.
Education for transformation
Our goal is to bring sustainability and legacy to all aspects of our program.
To do this, we will do the following:
- Offer free access conferences and training with sustainability experts.
- Include universities and local teaching teams in the academic program of the event.
- Communicate our progress before, during and after the event.
Circularity
We are on a journey to eliminate event waste.
In 2024, we want to achieve:
- Reduce single-use plastic, polystyrene and PVC by 60%.
- Ensure that 70% of signage is reused/repaired, use sustainable materials or be recycled.
- Implement a waste management program that includes waste collection stations with signage and waste separation.
- Install drinking water dispensers to reduce the need for plastic water bottles.
- Provide eco-friendly catering items (cutlery, straws, tea or coffee stirrers, etc.) that are reusable or compostable/recyclable.
- Request support from exhibitors so that their gifts are ecological or sustainable.
- Replace PVC or vinyl coated communication materials with ecological materials or digital communication material.
- Promote the use of cell phones as a simultaneous interpretation device.
Climate action
We are on a journey to eliminate event waste.
In 2024, we want to achieve:
- We invite transport providers to join together to ensure logistics contributes lower carbon.
- Involve our suppliers from the beginning of the project.
- Offsetting the carbon footprint of guest speaker travel through one of the sustainability and legacy strategy sponsors.
